Family Services Specialist

Grayson County Department of Social Services - Independence, VA


  • Managing and supervising difficult and complex cases involving in-depth interventions for children and youth who have entered foster care.

  • Formulating and implementing service plans which identifies goals, service needs and supports, based upon a comprehensive assessment of the child and family.

  • Coordinating intensive services provided by other agencies, such as individual/family counseling, educational programs, medical and mental health care, legal counsel, probation monitoring, and substance abuse treatment programs.

  • Collaborating with internal and external partners to ensure the well-being of children and families.

  • Inputting, retrieving and analyzing data for the purpose of generating and reviewing reports to ensure data is current and accurate.

  • Responding to public inquiries and referrals on Social Service issues and identifying appropriate program services/resources.

  • Representing the agency to other departments, court and City personnel.

  • Participating in community education & engagement, recruitment and advocacy/support for Social Service issues and programs.
